there are so many sources of inspiration for me - just walking in the city i see so many potential textiles - a certain way the tree branches look against the sky, the tiling of a wall, to list a few - but there are three ingenious, incredibly talented men and one fearless, beautifully passionate and endlessly artistic warrior queen that i find are my heros, four extremely remarkable beings who never fail to leave me in awe:
to mother monster, lady gaga - her and her art made me a stonger person, a person who is unafraid to dream beyond the stars and damn the people who put me down…her passion for equality and pride mean so much to me - even though i’m a straight girl, i care so so much about the elimination of homophobia; it’s an issue that lies very deeply in my heart, and perhaps what i am most outspoken about and hold the most passion for - and she’s such an amazing woman to look up to. she constantly reinvents impossibility into possibility, and to say that she is a role model is an extreme understatement.
to yves saint laurent - his perfect tailoring and le smoking, his class and timelessness, a perfect capturing of chic. his innovative spirit and mastery of design will always have a place in my heart.
to valentino garavani - i have never seen a single piece from the house of valentino that i do not admire and like, so romantic and ethereal, but not saccharine-sweet, lady-like yet still girl enough, free yet with an omnipresence of grace and sophistication. and his relationship with giancarlo and how much they’ve achieved together is profoundly beautiful.
and lastly, to the man who was too great for this world, lee mcqueen - he was such a beautiful man, with a wondrous soul and an astounding creativity and sensitivity, all with perfect tailoring. he created pieces no one else could have ever thought about, something only the name alexander mcqueen could have done. it was so cutting-edge yet so nostalgic too, intriguingly paradoxical and truly, each design that graced his mind was a masterpiece, a truly breathtaking work of art.
